Coach Profile
Ian Spear
Ian Spear- I grew up in Peru, New York. I went to Peru Central School from Kindergarten until I graduated in 2014. During my time at Peru I played six years as a varsity soccer player. During my time in high school I played for Plattsburgh Football Club from when I was 8 years old until I was 18 years old. Also during this time I played with a club out of Albany, Dutchman F.C. I went on to play my collegiate soccer at Plattsburgh State University. I played 4 years at Plattsburgh State; my junior and senior year I was named captain of the team. During my years playing in college I started coaching for PFC. After graduating college in 2018, I began a coaching position in the Coerver Coaching Program. I worked with Coerver Coaching for two years doing summer soccer camps and team training for soccer clubs all over New York State. After deciding to go back to school at Canisius College in pursue of my masters in Physical Education; I was able to start my career as a PE Teacher at Northern Adirondack Central School District in the fall of 2021(teaching Physical Education grades 6-12). That Fall I coached the Girls JV Soccer team. Last year, I was hired as the Boys Varsity Soccer Coach. I currently hold this position. My coaching philosophy comes from my personal experiences with soccer, my training in the Coerver Coaching program, and my many mentors throughout my life. My philosophy focuses on teaching and training the fundamentals of individual soccer skills. In the hope that each player will become a better individual player. Once the players can do the basic dribbling, passing, and shooting skills, the focus transitions into using these skills together as a team to help the team grow and better preform out on the field. The last and most important part of my coaching philosophy is creating a safe and fun learning environment where players are not afraid to make mistakes and try new things. My goal for each player, my team and the club as a whole is to help cultivate young soccer players’ skills, knowledge and love for the game of soccer.
