Coach Profile

Whitney Frary, who most recently served as the head coach at St. Olaf College the past three seasons, begins her first season as the head women’s soccer coach at Plattsburgh State in 2022. The team finished with a record of 11-6-2 and earned the fourth seed in the SUNYAC playoffs. During her time at St. Olaf, five different student-athletes earned All-MIAC honors, and the Oles’ 33 goals in 2019 served as the program’s most in a single season since 2011. Prior to St. Olaf, Frary coached as an assistant at Vassar College for three seasons, helping guide the Brewers to their first-ever NCAA Division III Tournament appearance in 2018. Vassar won at least nine games and qualified for the Liberty League Tournament in each of her three seasons on the Brewers’ coaching staff. Frary’s first college coaching position came at SUNY Cortland, where she worked as an assistant coach for two seasons. She helped lead the Red Dragons to the SUNYAC Tournament championship game in 2014. Her first coaching position came as an assistant varsity soccer coach at Niskayuna High School in 2013. Frary was a two-time All-American during her four-year career at William Smith College from 2009-12. The Herons won Liberty League titles in each of her four seasons and advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament semifinals in 2010 and 2011. A four-year All-Liberty League selection, Frary was named a Second-Team All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and D3soccer.com in 2011 and a Third-Team All-American by both organizations in 2012. A native of Niskayuna, N.Y., she is a member of the United Soccer Coaches, with which she holds a National Coaching Diploma and WeCOACH, the Women’s Coaching Association. Frary earned a Bachelor of Science in biology and a Bachelor of Arts in environmental studies from William Smith in 2013 and a Master of Science in kinesiology from Cortland in 2016.
